My Prayer

Dear Lord thank you for my life, thank you for my wife, thank you for my parents and my family, my students and my health; thank you for everything that you have given me. Thank you for everything I have and all that I don't have. In Jesus name, Amen.

Affirm the Greatness of America

By Barack Obama, Senator, Illinois: Now President Elect
Let us affirm the greatness of our Nation - not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy. Our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. That among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

That is the true genius of America, a faith - a faith in simple dreams, an insistence on small miracles; that we can tuck in our children at night and know that they are fed and clothed and safe from harm; that we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door; that we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe; that we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted - at least most of the time.

We can make sure that every child in America has a decent shot at life, and that the doors of opportunity remain open to all. E pluribus unum: "Out of many, one."

Will Smith

This guy has achieved phenomenal success. He has come a long way since rapping as Fresh Prince with DJ Jazzy Jeff. His success continued with the TV show Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Now the fourth of July weekend belongs to him as he debuts his movies.

Here are some quotes from Will Smith:

I’ve never really viewed myself as particularly talented. I’ve viewed myself as (you know) slightly above average in talent. Where I excel is ridiculous, sickening work ethic. You know, While the other guy’s sleeping, I’m working, while the other guy’s eating, I’m working, while the other guy is making love, well, I mean I’m making love too but I’m working really hard at it. --Will Smith, Actor

The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft. --Will Smith, Actor

Presidente Obama

For the first time in history we have a black President. A man of color! As I spoke to my wife, I told her that I hoped and prayed that one day our children would be able to see a President of color.

Was this the moment? I hoped that my children would be able to see a Black President, hopefully a Hispanic President, a woman President, an Asian President and a Jewish President. The time has come. Today, November 4, 2008, America elected Barack Obama, our nation’s first Black President.

Today marked history for our nation. Today marked a personal history for me. Today was my first time voting for the President of the United States. In the past I have had Presidents as my boss but I never voted for them. Today marked a time where change was needed and it was up to all of us to vote and make a difference. Today marks a tearful and joyful occasion. I look forward to my children knowing that they will be able to attain and achieve anything in life. They too can be President.

Thank you America! A special thanks to my parents though we may not have shared the same political views during this election they showed and taught me that I can do anything and be anything I set my heart, mind and goals to be.
We have come a long way but have longer to go. We have come a long way electing a man of color as President. I feel good as an American. Yes we can!

When my children ask me if they can do or be anything, I will say to them, “Yes you can”!
